You have three options:
- 1) Print labels for free using your printer. Once you register an item we will provide you with label templates in a variety of sizes.
- 2) Make your own. You can sew the ID into your favorite sweater, use a permanent marker on your USB hard drive or get creative and do it any way you like.
- 3) Visit The Store where you can get our durable, weather-proof vinyl labels.
A SendMeHome ID has three, dash separated, sections.
The first section represents the person or organization who registers the item. If an individual registers an item their SendMeHome IDs will begin with a letter. For example, each of the items that our first user registers will be given a SendMeHome ID beginning with the letter 'A'. If an organization registers an item, it will begin with a number. For example, all of our professional labels that you can buy from The Store will start with the number '1'.
The second section of a SendMeHome ID is used to identify each user's distinct items. When our first user registers her first item it will receive the ID 'A-1'. Her second item will receive 'A-2' etc. This same style is applied for both individuals and organizations, but organizations may also have letters in their second section.
Finally, the last section will always be three characters long comprised of both letters and numbers. This is your item's password. It is used to ensure the privacy of traveling items, which is explained here. The password is not necessary for items you are protecting from loss.

If you want to create a story and don't want the whole world to read it, you can make it private. Here is a quick
explanation of the difference between public and private items.
Public
A public item can be viewed by any internet user, can be commented on by any SendMeHome user, and may appear on the front page of SendMeHome.com.
Private
A private item cannot be browsed or searched for and it will not appear on the front page. It can only be seen if you know the item's password.
A good use of private mode is an item only passed between friends. A user browsing SendMeHome would never see it, but if you did want to share the item's story with another person you can simply tell them the full SendMeHome ID.

As mentioned above,
a SendMeHome ID has three parts, the password is the last
part and always contains three random letters or numbers. If you know an
item's password you have the ability to add a chapter to its story. A password
affects an item differently depending on its privacy:
Public
To share a public item with friends either use the link provided on the item's page or give them the first two parts of the SendMeHome ID which they can then enter on the homepage. The password is not required to view the item. This enables the story to be shared freely but only those in possession of the password, usually written on the item, can add chapters to the story.
Private
To share a private item with friends you'll need to give them the full SendMeHome ID, including the password, which they'll have to enter on the homepage. A URL is not available for a private item. Anybody that can view a private item can also add a chapter.
